In the final day of a trip what do you do? Sight see of course! So we crossed a bridge and absorbed some of the older culture of Montreal before attending a panel of showrunners who head up some of the biggest comedy shows on TV – 30 Rock, Parks & Recreation, Modern Family, and The Simpsons. It was great to see just how these writers came into their positions, some through stand-up, others through just being writers. And perhaps the best piece of information we took out of the panel is that 30 Rock writers might/might not have wisely decided to cut a bit that featured SNL’s Bobby Moynihan dressed in full Wario gear.
After that it was off to catch Maria Bamford, it seemed like it was easily the 3rd time we attempted to get into her show during the week without success. This time around we made it and were treated to Maria’s completely weird and left-of-center brand of humor. It was a train that you just jump on and have to ride until the end, everything will be alright. Maria has some killer new material that we’re sure will end up on a new album soon, and hopefully before she returns for her Christmas Target commercials.
After that we caught the tail end of “Cheat Live” again, Bill Burr was on stage with some material we didn’t hear earlier in the week and a crowd that seemed easily 10x more enthusiastic. Those shows were going well.
We found out earlier that night that we’d be traveling home from the festival with an extra person in our car, there will be more on that later, but know that it was one of the highlights of the fest.
