Lewis Black: Fun For The Whole Family | Music Box At The Borgata | 6.19.2010

 June 21, 2010      Jon      Reviews, Stand-Up

I have an great relationship with my dad, but it’s getting harder to figure out “The Perfect Gift” year after year. Trying to think outside the box, I took my Father (and his wife and my wife) to see Lewis Black for Father’s Day. Some friends thought this was a bit of a risky move, but I assured them that Lewis and my Dad have a lot in common, especially their temperament when it comes to things they are passionate about! Plus, my dad’s a big fan, double win!

I got the heads up that Lewis was a little under the weather heading into the second night of his Atlantic City shows, but that he would be fine to perform. When the show started, it seemed like it might be a rough night for Lewis as he sounded like his voice was 85 percent gone, however, once he got through how much he hated pollen, he sounded like the vintage comedian we know and love.

The set was really funny and Lewis tackled subjects like the aforementioned Pollen, his “shitty” AT&T iPhone service, The Government, Legalizing Marijuana, His Generation, Taxes and his new life as a mainstream comedian.

After the set, we had the opportunity to head backstage and meet Mr. Black. It was a small room, just a handful of people (including his parents), his tour manager/producer Ben and a couple of other people. Lewis was gracious and very friendly as we chatted about the show. Then the “hold my breathe” moment: My dad started riffing about his iPhone problems. I got a bit nervous when my dad starting making jokes with Lewis, but got some genuine laughs from the comic! We took a picture and it was a perfect evening!

Lewis Black’s new special Stark Raving Black is in stores now via Comedy Central.
