MacGruber will be the next Saturday Night Live sketch in line to get a full movie makeup.
Will Forte’s spoof of the TV series MacGyver is being developed into a full length feature that will be directed by The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone. Besides being on a boat, Taccone is also a writer for SNL and created and directed many of MacGruber’s SNL sketches that usually feature Forte and cast member Kristen Wiig (formerly Maya Rudolph) in hairy situations that involve sealed off rooms and ticking bombs that need to be diffused.
SNL guest stars Shia LeBeouf, Jonah Hill, and even MacGyver himself, Richard Dean Anderson have all participated in the sketch in the past. It’s tough to figure out how they will make a movie out of a 40-second bit but SNL has done it in the past to varying degrees of success.
Early reports of potential film plots include the legendary, much decorated MacGruber being pulled out of retirement as a monk in Ecuador by a colonel, who needs him once more to fight on behalf of his country. This time the mission involves going up against the evil Cunth, who has a nuclear warhead; the mission is personal because Cunth killed MacGruber’s bride.
