MADtv cast is reuniting on the CW for 20-year anniversary

December 10, 2015      William Fortune      Television

Mad TVBefore sketch comedy became a staple in our entertainment diet, there were only a handful of shows offering the now popular art form. Today it seems like every car insurance and male enhancement commercial is trying to be the next great skit. But in the nineties, Saturday Night Live and Mad TV were the dominant forces of sketch, with intermittent competition from Mr. Show, The Ben Stiller Show, and Upright Citizens Brigade. In 1995, Mad TV was Fox’s response to the success of Saturday Night Live. Despite losing out to the Lorne Michael’s institution, Mad TV accumulated a loyal following over its 14-year run. The show also launched the careers of some of today’s finest including Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Andy Daly, and Ike Barinholtz, among others.

Exciting fans everywhere, Mad TV is headed back to television for a 20-year reunion event on The CW. According to Deadline, the special will air on January 12, 2016 and will feature the show’s classic clips. The one-time television event will also include a variety of brand new sketches from returning cast members. The cast members confirmed for the reunion include: Ike Barinholtz, Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Crista Flanagan, Anjelah Johnson, Nicole Randall Johnson, Keegan-Michael Key, Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange, Bobby Lee, Michael McDonald, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Eric Price, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, Stephnie Weir and Debra Wilson. The CW also announced that it will be streaming 75 of the “maddest and funniest episodes” on January 5, 2016.In the meantime, here’s one the show’s classic sketches to hold you over until the reunion.
