Maria Bamford reveals surprising past as a “Star Trek” touring cast member

May 8, 2017      Sam      Maria Bamford, Television, The Late Show

Last week, Maria Bamford’s latest special, Old Baby – in which the stand-up performs in a handful of different venues, from sidewalks to stages – came out on Netflix. She hit The Late Show to tell host Stephen Colbert all about the special, and equally importantly, all about how much her mom loves him.

Bamford and Colbert also exchange stories about their marriages, with the comic sharing her current personal mantra: “embrace that which disgusts you.”

She also tells a story about one of her earliest Hollywood gigs, and boy, has the Arrested Development actress / Lady Dynamite creator come a long way: one of her first roles was as a Star Trek character. No, not on the TV show – in a touring company (aka a roving band of Star Wars cosplayers) that mostly performed in mall atriums across the South. We’re glad you made it through, too, Maria.
