Today, HBO Max announced they signed an overall deal with Marlon Wayans. This deal includes two separate specials, one a stand-up special and one a “multi-act special” that Wayans will host.
Additionally, the new streaming service has also picked up a scripted half-hour comedy titled Book of Marlon. The series, which is created by Wayans and his longtime producing partner Rick Alvarez, focuses on “the hilarious trials of his real life,” according to the official synopsis, “following the fictionalized version of Wayans as he attempts to reconcile being a good person and father with…being Marlon.”
“Marlon is a ‘triple threat’ with an impressive resume that speaks to his acting talent and comedy prowess” Suzanna Makkos, executive vice president of original comedy and animation for HBO Max, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have his unique voice and comedic vision join our growing family of creators.”
“I’m excited to be in business with HBO Max. Rick and I have had a lot of success in the streaming space and are excited to work with a company that is equally excited to work with us” said Wayans in his own official statement. “We look forward to helping both brands grow rapidly and internationally. HBO Max is a great place to continue our mission of putting smiles on people’s faces.”
We imagine that these aren’t things that we’ll get to see until 2021, but we’re looking forward to see what it’s all going to look like.
