It looks like Melissa McCarthy and fellow Groundlings alum and husband Ben Falcone will be executive producing a new comedy for TVLand. It’s set to be a single-camera comedy with McCarthy guesting in the pilot. Tentatively titled Friends with Melissa, the comedy is written, executive produced and inspired by the real lives of Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras (Mike Tyson Mysteries), who watched as their friends from The Groundlings went on to star in blockbuster comedies and win Oscars, while they toiled away writing for children’s television. “We are so excited to be working with Hugh, Rachel & Larry – such funny people, who are great friends.” says McCarthy. She’s on fire right now with the success of Spy over the summer and the McCarthy forecast shows us her future will contain the upcoming 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters as well as Michelle Darnell, written and directed by Falcone. The two are quite the team. They are comedy’s new power couple.
