Melissa McCarthy hosted Saturday Night Live, with the ending of an era

Melissa McCarthy is a fun Saturday Night Live host. One of many reasons being that no matter what situation she finds herself in, she’s completely committed to it, whether that be stringing her up on stage wires so she can fight in mid air, take a dive through a glass window, or get physical with a camera. McCarthy is fearless with her physical comedy. Something SNL hasn’t traded much in these later seasons.
Last night’s episode was also Seth Meyers’ last as the head writer and anchor for Weekend Update. As we all know Meyers is taking over as host of Late Night in a few weeks. Knowing that, the odds of not seeing some of Seth’s friends return to send him off would be pretty slim. Also, a surprising drop in from Kendrick Lamar to perform with Imagine Dragons, because why not remind the people that those two had a great performance at last week’s Grammys. It’s either that or they really hard want to be the next Jay-Z / Linkin Park super mashup group.
All that being said, there were some great moments of McCarthyism last night. While not every sketch landed there were some standout moments, a digital short that finally nailed it, and a song that you’ll find yourself singing for the rest of Black History Month. McCarthy has timing but that timing couldn’t really help some of last night. Let’s watch the tape.
