Late night comedy game show “@midnight” is being rebooted to replace “The Late Late Show” on CBS

February 8, 2023      Andrew Buss      @midnight, News, Television

Here’s a move we definitely didn’t see coming! @Midnight is coming back to the airwaves, and not just returning, but with a new host, time slot, and network.

Back in April of last year, James Corden announced he was leaving The Late Late Show in a year. Corden has been the host of The Late Late Show since 2015, when he took over for Craig Ferguson. Most people believed they’d just find a new host for the franchise. Instead, CBS is going in an entirely different direction.

Last night, news came down that the timeslot would replaced by a revived version of the Comedy Central game show @Midnight with a TBD host that has not been announced yet During the initial run of @Midnight the show was hosted by Chris Hardwick on Comedy Central between 2013 and 2017. Stephen Colbert and Funny or Die will be producing this new incarnation of the series.

With as crowded as the late night field has become, it actually could be a pretty solid move for CBS to go in another direction entirely. The show already has brand recognition, is within the Viacom/Paramount ecosystem and provides an alternative from your standard late night fare. Not to mention, during its initial run it provided great exposure for up-and-coming comedians, providing them an platform to be presented to the greater public. So we’re all for it!
