Mindy Kaling discusses Steve Carell’s departure from “The Office”
August 6, 2010 Matt News, Television, The Office
Mindy Kaling wears many different hats around the set of The Office. She’s written many of the Emmy Award winning series episodes, is an executive producer, and plays the shows resident gossip queen Kelly Kapoor.
With the recent announcement that the show’s leading man Steve Carell will be departing from the series it seems everyone is wondering who will replace him and potentially become the next Michael Scott. The Hollywood Reporter recently asked Kaling what her take on the situation is and here’s what she had to say.
We’re kinda hoping they just replace Carell with another actor (a la Dick York, Dick Sargent) and just have Michael Scott carry on. It would be even funnier if they got an actor that looked NOTHING like Carell. Blonde, blue eyes, heavy-set maybe. Then re-introduce this new actor after Michael Scott comes back from vacation. Make, everyone in the office think there’s “something different about Michael” but none of them are able to place it.
You are welcome NBC, we’ll do our first writing of the script for scale. But you’ll have to pay up when this idea works.
