With everything going on right now, things have definitely been getting shuffled around quite a bit from films to music festivals and even comedy festivals. And so it really didn’t come as too much of a surprise when Austin’s Moontower Comedy Festival, originally slated to start on April 22nd, was postponed. To hold us all over until we can all be back there again in late September for the real thing, they are doing something kind of different by hosting a virtual comedy festival on SiriusXM.
Having started earlier today, the festival will run every day until May 1st. All of the festival’s signature acts are present including SheBang, Unhinged, Bye Felicia, Blue Moon, NY’s Finest, and Stars In Bars. Comedians The Sklar Brothers, Pete Lee, Dana Gould, Jay Oakerson, Dan Soder, and Ron Bennington will also be making appearances throughout to provide commentary, as well as various other clips from stand-up comics sprinkled throughout.
“We are thrilled to work with SiriusXM to present the first-ever Moontower Virtual Comedy Festival in April, right when we would all be experiencing it live,” said Moontower Comedy Fesitval director Lietza Brass. “Rescheduling the festival to the fall created a huge void in the lives of our fans, staff, and artists, and SiriusXM’s innovative concept officially ranks them as the world’s most supportive collaborator. Together we’ve recreated the event virtually, filled with tons of exclusive sneak peeks, so fans can be thoroughly entertained before gathering in Austin this September.”
“We love being a part of Moontower every year and disappointed that we have to wait to attend the festival in person, but this is a fun way to recreate the experience for comedy fans,” added Jack Vaughn, SiriusXM’s Senior Vice President of Comedy Programming, in a statement. “We are happy to team up with Moontower to deliver this event to listeners in the safety and convenience of their homes.”
The virtual festival can be found every day until May 1st on SiriusXM Raw Dog Comedy starting at 12 P.M. ET and reran at 5 ET. An entire rerun of the festival will be broadcast on May 2nd at 12 P.M. ET.
