MTV reboots “Fear Factor,” replaces Joe Rogan with Ludacris

Give it enough time, and everything gets a reboot: Deadline just got word that MTV will be rehabbing former hit Fear Factor. But there’s more changing than the network (the gross-out game show, which challenged contestants to face their biggest fears – which, lots of times, involved eating stuff like bugs – originally ran on NBC). MTV’s version of the show will be hosted by rapper / ab model Ludacris, who will also produce, replacing former host, stand-up Joe Rogan.
Rogan hosted both of Fear Factors’ past runs, first from 2001-2006 then again from 2011-2012. Here’s his explanation for how it all ended, in his own words:
Just because Rogan won’t be forcing people to bathe in pig’s blood, or whatever, doesn’t mean you can’t see him whenever you want – he still hosts his hit podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, which is one of the biggest shows in iTunes history. And, the self-described “psychedelic adventurer” is into a whole lot more than comedy these days, including hunting, sensory deprivation, and MMA, so don’t be surprised to see him pop up everywhere from UFC matches to Silicon Valley guest spots.
