When you think of NatGeo, you don’t think comedy. But you will now, as the creators of the successful HBO series Silicon Valley bring their docu-comedy series into their fold. History of the World will examine questions such as the evolution of man and the origins of spirituality through sketch comedy, puppetry, animation, and archival footage. We know John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky as showrunners (King of the Hill) and film writers (Blades of Glory). With comedy seemingly being more integrated in every facet of entertainment, it’s now NatGeo’s turn at a piece of the comedy pie, hoping they will attract more viewers without offending their core audience. “It is definitely outside of the box historically for National Geographic. Why not get a history lesson from the guys who wrote Blades of Glory” says Tim Pastore, President of Original Programming and Production for the channel. Is this the History of the World Part II Mel Brooks fans have been waiting for? We’ll see. It’s slated for a Fall premiere.
