With the pick up of two more pilots, NBC now brings their total up to seven this season. The two new additions, People Are Talking and Take It From Us, are both multicamera comedies from producers who have planted their feet in solid ground so far in their careers. People Are Talking, which had a script commitment attached, comes from writer DJ Nash (Growing Up Fisher) and executive producer Will Packer (Ride Along). The comedy focuses on sex, race and everything else your parents told you to stay away from. Nash will be writing the script and exec produce alongside Packer. There has already been a remake in the works of Uncle Buck, from Packer. People Are Talking also reunites NBC with Nash, whose credits include network comedies Growing Up Fisher, Guys With Kids, Up All Night and Bent, among others.
Take It From Us, meanwhile, landed at the network in October with a script-plus-penalty commitment. Written by Friends alum Greg Malins and Barry Schwartz (Your Family or Mine), the comedy centers on a couple who tells their son the lessons they learned growing up in the ’90s in the hopes that he avoids making the same mistakes. Malins and Schwartz will pen the script and executive produce. Take It From Us marks Malins’ latest half-hour inception. He’s also co-created TBS’ Ground Floor and has the network’s upcoming comedy Your Family or Mine on tap. NBC said they were going to focus on their comedy game and that is exactly what they are doing. With Parks and Rec wrapping up, Community moving to Yahoo! Screen, and other NBC comedies hanging on by a thread, NBC is focusing on the future, and that future is comedy.
