The new “Mystery Science Theater 3000” crew answers questions about the upcoming reboot

One of the biggest cult hits of the 90s, Mystery Science Theater 3000 blended mind-blowingly bad B movies with snarky, sci-fi infused commentary, an irresistible combination that earned the show six seasons on Comedy Central, three on The Sci-Fi Channel and – after a highly publicized Kickstarter campaign raised over six million dollars from fans last year – fourteen all-new episodes on Netflix premiering on April 14th.
The A.V. Club sat down with the MST3K crew – creator Joel Hodgson, with new cast members Jonah Ray, Baron Vaughn, and Hampton Yount – to hear more about the series’ big comeback.
Some spoilers: you can expect “a lot more vape jokes,” according to Yount; plus, dubstep, says Ray, even though “all the references we make are still eight years old.”
The entire half-hour interview is up on The A.V. Club’s Facebook. New installments of MST3K premiere on Netflix later this year – if you haven’t had a chance to get obsessed yet, you can stream classic episodes on Club MST3K, and pore over this definitive oral history from Wired.
Update: And one day later, they released this full staff photo.
