It’s been forty years since the release of the comedy movie Blazing Saddles. A movie hailed as one of the all time comedy greats. To celebrate the success of this wild west satire, Warner Bros. is releasing a Blazing Saddles 40th anniversary Blu-ray edition that comes with tons of extra goodies. One of the highlights of the new edition is the all new, Blaze of Glory: Mel Brooks’ Wild, Wild, West, a featurette that puts Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, and Madeline Kahn, explaining why the flick is such a cultural hit. The new 40th anniversary copy will also include 10 quotable art cards with funny quotes and images. Finally the new edition will include plenty of vintage things like, some commentary from Mel Brooks, a documentary about the cast reunion. Black Bart a 1975 TV pilot that was inspired by the film, deleted scenes, and a theatrical trailer.
For some, it may be hard to believe just how big this old school classic is but consider this, it’s ranked #6 on AFI’s (American Film Institute) list of best comedies of all time. When the movie first hit the silver screen, back in 1974, it brought in a whopping $120 million at the domestic box office. That’s huge even by today’s standards. Since coming out, the film has sold over 4.6 million DVDs and my guess is that number is about to go even higher up with this 40th edition dropping.
The new edition drops May 6th but is available for pre-order now.
