This weekend we headed to NY Comic-Con, partially to check out the costumes (there are some closet CosPlayers on staff), but the main reason was to check out some of the great comedy panels.
If you think Comic-Con is all about sweaty comic book nerds in poorly constructed wolverine costumes you are totally wrong. It’s for all kinds of sweaty nerds dressed up in all kinds of poorly constructed costumes – TV, movies, video games, even comedians were represented and attracted a pretty big crowd.
Rob Corddry sat in to promote his show Children’s Hospital. Yeah I know it’s a pretty abysmal show but that is beyond the point.
The coolest event of the night was the panel was a back to back to Comedy Central panels for the next installment of their show Ugly Americans. The show’s creators, producers, animators, and talent were on hand to answer questions. Randy Perlstein (voice of Leonard) moderated the panel. And held it down as the comedic talents on the show ran with the stories and jokes. Kurt Metzger, Pete Holmes who wasn’t on site unfortunately, and Natasha Leggero who also wasn’t there but recorded this clip for attendees.

Next up was a panel for Nick Swardson’s new show Pretend Time with Nick Swardson. There we got to preview the entire first episode of the new show, a rarity and it didn’t disappoint as the show ran the gauntlet of sketch bits that flow into each other as Nick delivers his really odd-but-funny sensibilities.
After the show was aired, Nick took the stage to answer questions and talk about the show. He wasn’t alone, as Delocated creator and star Jon Glaser “moderated” the panel and generally served as someone for Swardson to vibe with as they discussed the show. Nick was funny as hell (as he is always) and shot the shit about the new show as well as video games, upcoming movies, and generally whatever he felt like.
All in all it was a pretty badass Comic-Con, kinda hot in the Javitz center but between all of the scantily clad women, the stand up comedians, and dancing Pedobear, an awesome time.
Here are some pictures from the panels.
