The Grammy Nominations were announced late last night. Though there are some ridiculously crazy categories floating around out there (Best Banda Album anyone?) the two we always look forward to are in the comedy groups.
It’s a year of veterans shutting out newbies and getting the nominations. Lewis Black, Flight Of The Conchords, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, and Robin Williams getting noms. This isn’t entirely shocking because people always pick the names they know. But with that being said, there were great albums by newer comedians like Hannibal Buress, Bo Burnham, or the white-hot Reggie Watts that would have been pretty amazing to see get nominations.
Here are the nominees…
Best Comedy Album
Margaret Cho – Cho Dependent [Clownery Records]
Flight Of The Conchords – I Told You I Was Freaky [Sub Pop]
Kathy Griffin – Kathy Griffin Does The Bible Belt [Donut Run, Inc.]
Lewis Black – Stark Raving Black [Comedy Central Records]
Robin Williams – Weapons Of Self Destruction [Columbia Records]
Best Spoken Word Album
Graig Ferguson – American On Purpose [HarperAudio]
