Can you smell what NBC is cooking?
It is a new single camera comedy about the early life of The Rock titled Young Rock. On Saturday, at the winter TCA press presentation, NBC unveiled the show (which was sent straight to series), accompanied by a video statement from The Rock himself, which he later shared on Instagram.
“We’re going to find young Rock wreaking havoc in the streets of Hawaii, when I was a teenager, getting arrested seemingly every single week, doing things I shouldn’t have been doing, but still a good kid,” Rock says in the video. “Then we got evicted off the island, and moved to, of all places Nashville, Tennessee, where I continued to get in trouble.”
Given how much of a massive following The Rock has (the video announcement on his page has garnered almost 5 million views in just over two days), it should be no surprise how quickly the network was to get on board with this idea.
“When we pitched the show to our friends at NBC, at the end of the pitch, all jaws were dropped and all hands were raised and they said ‘we are in 100%, you’re not allowed to pitch this anywhere else.”
Joining him and his 7 Bucks production company is Nahnatchka Khan (Fresh Off the Boat). So far, other details are unknown, however Johnson did mention that he will be appearing in every episode, as a bookend someone else will naturally be cast to play younger him. Whatever this turns out to be, all we know is we can’t wait to see where it goes! (Although we all already know how it ends…).

For the first time ever I’m bringing you along with me to experience my insanely unbelievable childhood, teenage years and adolescence. My close friends refer to me as the big, brown tattooed Forrest Gump because of everyone and everything that has weaved in and out of my surreal life. I’ve seen it all my friends – success, failure, homelessness, evictions, suicide attempts, arrests, hard times, good times, low times, high times. And all this shit happened to me by the time I turned 21 😂🤦🏽♂️ This is a show about my young life. And the lessons I learned. The good, the bad, the ugly but ALWAYS FUNNY 😂 Excited to bring you on this journey of taking a look at my past life, thru the lens of what the future holds. And who knows what that might 😉🇺🇸 be. @nbc @sevenbucksprod #fiercebabyproductions #YOUNGROCK Coming soon!
