It’s that beautiful time of year again when almost all the top comedians flock to NYC to take part in Comedy Central’s New York Comedy Festival. This year’s fests got started on November the 5th and span to last Saturday the 9th. With a countless big name acts coming into town, it only made sense for the hilarious Nick Offerman to make an appearance. Offerman took the stage last Saturday night at The Beacon Theatre to, what looked like, a sold out crowd.
The doors opened at 9:45 and started promptly at 10pm with some of the audience still looking to find their seats. Offerman’s opening act was Corn Mo, an interesting guy who rocked out the accordion for a few songs and I have to say, he really did rock out on that accordion. Next, it was Offerman’s time to take the stage. Nick came running on stage to grab the mic and quickly said something along the lines of, “Is that a live show at the Beacon Theatre or a banana in your pants?” He then pulled a banana out of his pocket and gave it to a woman in the front row. It was hilarious and the laughs never seemed to slow from that point on.
Nick has an interesting style to his stand up. It’s almost more like story telling than joke telling but all his stories are extremely comical. Throughout the night Nick went on to play his guitar, talk about his wife, and even play a home-made ukulele that Offerman described as, “A real turd.” Nick also discussed his show’s title, Full Bush. He began by saying it was another way of saying, “Going all out” or “Full force” but he eventually circled back to saying it also meant… well, exactly what you thought “Full Bush” meant.
All in all, the show was a tremendous success. Corn Mo was entertaining and a great warm up for the audience. While Nick was also entertaining, he was down right hysterical. Sadly though with Saturday coming to an end, this year’s comedy festival comes to an end as well. Thanks again for another great year, NYCF, we can’t wait to see what next year has in store.
