While the ladies of Nikki & Sara Live got some big laughs and scored two seasons on MTV, they will not see a third. The network has decided against renewing the show for another season. Sara Schaefer announced the news on Nikki and Sara’s podcast, You Had To Be There, stating, “We’re sad to report that MTV did not pick us up for a third season.” She continued on in a lighthearted and joking voice, saying, “Collective shock around the world.”
The two taped the podcast in Sara’s apartment in front of a number of friends. Sara elaborated on the networks choice not to renew the show saying, “To clarify we were not canceled. We weren’t picked up. Canceled implies at midseason they axed you because you were failing. We were not failing. I want to be very clear. Our ratings were up from season one. Our ratings were comparable, if not better, to every other cable, late night show. I’m very proud of the show that we did. I’m very grateful that we got to do it. But MTV decided it just wasn’t part of their programming future. And that’s ok. That’s their prerogative. They gave us a show to begin with and I have nothing but gratitude for that.”
While the two were clearly upset about the decision, and understandably so, they still handled it great. The two used the situation to make jokes and be playful, saying that they weren’t “pregnant teenagers,” in reference to MTV’s Sixteen and Pregnant. Although it’s still sad for the girls, I’m sure it wont be the last we’ll see of them.
