Community fans rejoice! Because your supreme leader is back in the captain’s chair. That’s right, it’s official, official. Dan Harmon, the series creator and ringleader for seasons 1-3 and after being fired for season 4, a season which the original creator claims he has not yet watched.
The rumors have been around for a while after word was slipped at a podcast taping but this weekend Harmon announced that he would be returning to Community alongside writer and co-showrunner, Chris McKenna. Though official staff for the fifth season has yet to be determined, Harmon joked that he would love to hire anyone who is currently available and not working for any of the other shows on the air. “If any of you are a midlevel writer who doesn’t work for Parks and Rec, let me know that you exist and I would love to hire you.” Harmon has officially confirmed his return on Twitter and mentioned that would love to be able to work with the same actors. “Yes yes yes! I’m back I’m back I’m back. You can thank @joelmchale.”
He joked on that he would love to work with Ken Jeong, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, and Donald Glover, but nothing has been confirmed yet. He also joked on the podcast that he would only come back if Chevy Chase also returned, which is unlikely because Chase is one of the main reasons Harmon was fired in the first place. Harmon has been scrounging the Internet trying to find more writers and staff, but we have to be thinking that he is doing more than that to get the best workers he possibly can to starting working on the next, highly anticipated season of Community. In addition to his work on the next season, Harmon also has a 10-episode animated series called Rick and Morty, which is set to air late night on [adult swim] sometime in 2014.
