Following the news that longtime radio host Gregg “Opie” Hughes had been let go by his most recent network, SiriusXM, the former Opie Radio Show host confirmed on Instagram that he was “fired SO fired,” alongside a special message for his hardcore fans and the promise that this will all just be a “temporary setback.”
The message captioned a video of Hughes at the beach, writing a message in the sand: “your mom’s box,” a reference to the last words Hughes spoke on air way back when he left Opie and Anthony.
As we reported last week, SiriusXM released a statement to All Access that read, “SiriusXM confirms it has terminated its relationship with Gregg ‘Opie’ Hughes, host of the Opie Radio Show weekday afternoons on the Faction Talk channel. SiriusXM does not publicly discuss internal personnel issues.” Opie’s co-host, comedian Sherrod Small, later sent out a series of Tweets confirming the firing. This came after Hughes’ fairly recent, very messy separation from his co-host Jim Norton.
Along with his own “official” announcement on the firing, Hughes also posted a few videos documenting his “vacation,” which show him slowly going crazy without an on-air outlet:
And for fans missing their daily dose of Opie, he also gave a hint where you can find him this week:
My first order of business next week, head down to Marie’s Italian Specialties on tuesday to give @carlruiz a hug and thank you! Who’s in?
