Oscars co-host Wanda Sykes, “I just felt so awful for my friend Chris”
March 30, 2022 Matt Kleinschmidt Academy Awards, Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes
Earlier today Oscars co-host Amy Schumer weighed in on the Chris Rock assault from Will Smith during this weekend’s Oscars telecast. Now we are hearing from another co-host Wanda Sykes who also didn’t mince words about Will Smith when asked for her take on the event as the event’s co-host.
Sykes was asked by Ellen Degeneres what her experience was and Sykes felt sickened by the fact that Smith wasn’t removed from the building afterward and “felt awful for her friend Chris.” She was not witness at the precise moment since she was in the middle of a changeover because of hosting but once she found out what happened, it was shocking to her that Smith was not immediately removed from the building. Sykes felt it was “gross” about it.
Sykes later added that Rock spoke with her after the ceremony and apologized to her because it was supposed to be Wanda, Amy, and Regina’s night but it would be overshadowed by the events that happened. Sykes added of her hosting duties, “I know [Will] apologized to Chris [the day after], but… We were the hosts, this is ‘our house,’ we’re re gonna take care of y’all tonight and no one has apologized to us,” Sykes added to DeGeneres. “And we worked really had to put that show together.”
Alright, perhaps we’re finished reporting on this topic.
