Election years are always an interesting time. In the entertainment world, you’ll see more and more attention paid to shows like Saturday Night Live and the various late night shows to weigh in as campaigns are kicked into high gear, with often hilarious results. And Showtime is no different.
Today it was announced that their series Our Cartoon President will be producing more episodes this fall for its third season. After premiering in early 2018, the Stephen Colbert produces series has served as a vehicle to lampoon and satirize whatever is going on in politics in that moment. And given the elevation that an election year will bring, we can only imagine what they have planned.
Joining Cartoon Trump and Biden are cartoon depictions of Dr. Jill Biden, Hunter Biden, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Deborah Birx, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Kayleigh McEnany, OAN’s Chanel Rion, Anthony Weiner, and whoever winds up being Joe Biden’s running mate. Nobody is safe from getting the animation treatment. According to the official synopsis, there’s even more fun to be had with the following plot-lines.
“Don Jr. and Eric Trump teaming with Elon Musk and MyPillow’s Mike Lindell to invent a coronavirus cure, Susan Collins escaping with Brett Kavanaugh to Maine to avoid answering whether she’ll vote for Trump and CNN’s Chris Cuomo fighting to be a serious journalist to the chagrin of his older brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo.“
Given the fast-paced nature of the beast (where a headline can go from topical to outdated in a matter of minutes), there is an extraordinarily fast production schedule at work, not unlike South Park. And whatever they do, we look forward to seeing the result starting September 13th when Our Cartoon President returns.
