Practically everyone film seems to be getting their own virtual table reads for charity in 2020. And we wouldn’t be surprised to see a whole bunch of your favorite holiday classics doing the same during the Christmas season. And first up is a staple of this time of year.
It’s been announced that Pete Davidson will be playing George Bailey in a virtual table read of It’s A Wonderful Life. And while some on social media were skeptical of the casting choice, when you stop and think about it, it does make a little bit of sense on paper. There are some parallels between Davidson, who has been very open about his struggles with mental illness, and George Bailey, who we see going to a bridge about to commit suicide at one point. And not to mention, we did see that Davidson has some acting chops in King of Staten Island this summer. So there is potential here. (And after all, it is just a reading after all).
Rounding out the star-studded cast is Maude Apatow, Ed Asner, Bill Pullman, Carol Kane, Mia Farrow, Ellie Kemper, Ed Begley Jr., Richard Kind, Diedrich Bader, BD Wong, and Michael Shannon. It will be hosted by Tom Bergeron and directed by Victor Nelli. The special will be benefiting the Ed Asner Family Center, dedicated to assisting those with mental health issues and their families.
“We are so thrilled to have Pete reenact the role of George in It’s a Wonderful Life with his talented wit and clever vocalizations. And we look forward to having Maude join the cast as Violet with her creative flair. Please join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity to snuggle up on your couch and experience this all-star cast virtual table read from the comfort of your own home, while helping to raise money for The Ed Asner Family Center. It will be a very meaningful night!” said Matthew Asner, Co-Founder/President/CEO of The Ed Asner Family Center.
“Autism and special needs touches all of us personally,” added Navah Paskowitz-Asner, Co-Founder. “By gifting tickets to the table read, people are giving their friends and family that unique, once in a lifetime gift that everyone is searching for…an experience they can share together that will be unforgettable while helping scores of families living with special needs.”
The reading will take place on December 13th at 8 PM ET. Tickets can be purchased here.
