By now we all know the news that the one and only Prince was found dead today at his Paisley Park recording studio in Minnesota. While tributes have poured in from all different facets of the entertainment world, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take a moment and fully pay respect to the influence Prince had on one of the most iconic pieces of sketch comedy that the world has ever seen.
Upon learning this news, we immediately rushed to see what Charlie Murphy had to say about Prince. As Murphy’s telling of a Prince true Hollywood story was documented on one of Chappelle’s Show most iconic sketches. The sketch would define the tone and humor of the show, and in with the help of another Rick James story, introduced Charlie Murphy to a generation of comedy fans.

It was 2004 when Murphy and Chappelle unleashed an incredibly hilarious telling of Murphy’s chance encounter with the the purple one at a club. This meeting let to a basketball showdown, and followed it up with pancakes.
