A special is never as impromptu as it seems. By the time you see a comedian’s stand-up special, what you’re watching is something that’s been refined and perfected over the course of many months on the road, if not more. Rory Scovel is throwing all that out the window.
For his latest project Live Without Fear, which is described as a hybrid of part special/part documentary, Sovel “decided to find out what would happen if he fully improvised the show from start to finish for six straight nights.” The documentary special – which is being released by 800 Pound Gorilla Media – was filmed over six dates in March of 2018 at Relapse Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.
The documentary is directed by Scott Moran, who also worked on his Comedy Central series, Robbie. It will premiere on Scovel’s YouTube channel on June 24th.
Vulture premiered two of the clips from the documentary, which you can find below.
