Sasheer Zamata has been tapped to join the cast of Home Economics, a new ABC pilot, alongside Caitlin McGee, Topher Grace, and Karla Souza. Written by Michael Colton and John Aboud, Home Economics follows three siblings. “One in the 1 percent, one middle-class, and one barely holding on.”
According to the official synopsis, McGee will play Sarah, a therapist for at-risk kids who is struggling to make ends meet. Zamata plays McGee’s wife, who is a school teacher with “super-human patience”. Grace will play the middle-child, who is also in the middle-class. Souza will play a former lawyer married to Grace.
Zamata, a stand-up comedian based in New York, first came to public awareness when she was cast as a cast member on Saturday Night Live back in 2014. This was right after the series had been met with a large amount of controversy, given the lack of diversity with not having any black female cast members. Zamata was a cast member on the show until 2017.
And while, given everything going on, this is still probably quite a bit away, we look forward to seeing what this winds up looking like. We’re definitely intrigued.
