Before the current season started on October 3rd, Lorne Michaels announced that Saturday Night Live would be doing an unprecedented five shows in a row, gearing up for the November election. Typically in election years, the show would start mid-September to allow for a break in between elections. But the restrictions in place from the pandemic makes those things trickier.
And now, it’s been announced earlier today that the show will be adding a sixth show, to account for the Saturday after the election. It would feel weird if they weren’t able to comment on the outcome of this already pretty tense and crazy election in some way. However, just as five shows in a row was something that had never been attempted before, this is just upping the stakes even further.
As we’re approaching show four this weekend, with Adele and H.E.R. as the musical guest, we can’t help but question just what that sixth show will look like. After all, it takes a lot to put this show on. So by show six, one can only imagine that there will be an overall feeling of being drained from the show’s infamously rigorous schedule. We’ll definitely be watching to see how they’re able to pull it all off.
