This was probably bound to happen at some point. We just didn’t predict it’d be so soon.
Over the weekend, Morgan Wallen was reported to have been partying in ways that were not practicing social distancing protocols. This included being photographed without a mask, getting in strangers cars, and making out with random girls. All stuff that’d be perfectly acceptable in any other year, of course. Just not in 2020.
After this news broke, it was only a matter of time before it was announced that he would not be able to be on SNL this weekend, as previously announced. That announcement came from Wallen himself, via an Instagram video posted this morning.
As you can imagine, Saturday Night Live has very strict protocols in place to ensure the safety of everyone. Some of these include wearing masks and even evacuating the studio space whenever you’re not onstage, having the cast and crew quarantine, and even going as far as to pay the audience, to make sure they can follow New York’s restrictions about all audience members of a certain size must be a member of the cast and crew. So something tells us it probably didn’t sit well to find out their musical guest was not following the same guidelines.
No word yet as far as who will step in his place. We actually wouldn’t be surprised if the show was done without a musical guest, either. We’ll find out on Saturday.
