In a very sad story, a Seattle comedian was attacked on stage Monday night and is currently in the hospital. Dylan Avila is a Seattle-based comedian who runs an open mic at The Local 907 in Renton. According to the Seattle Times, he was attacked on stage by a man he had previously banned from performing at the show with a baseball bat. Avila was struck twice in the head with the aluminum bat before the attacker could be stopped.
“Attendees said the man sneaked into the bar on Monday, hid behind the stage and waited for Avila to go onstage. He hit Avila once along his left ear, and then once along the back of his head. Avila suffered a double skull fracture, his wife said. The father of three underwent surgery Tuesday at Valley Medical Center in Renton, where he will be in the intensive-care unit for at least another day.”
The suspect is currently in jail and has been denied bail. Since the incident, a GoFundMe campaign has been started to help Avila and his family cover his medical bills. Thanks to a large outpouring of support from friends, family, and comedians all over the country, the campaign is very close to reaching their $10,000 goal. You can help by donating, here.
