Hold onto your butts because Fletch is getting a reboot.
Seinfeld writer David Mandel has been brought on board by Warner Bros. to write the screenplay for the Chevy Chase classic. Mandel has a pretty great grasp on comedy as he’s written for Curb Your Enthusiasm, SNL, and Clerks TV series to name a few. There’s not much news beyond this, so you can start the speculation as to who will play the title character on the reboot. There has been mentions of Zach Galifiankis and even Zach Braff tied to reboots in the past but nothing is locked.
I’m thinking it would totally awesome if they went left of center and grabbed a funny person that hasn’t had a movie breakthrough role yet, say like Aziz Ansari, Demetri Martin, or Joel McHale. But in all reality, they’ll probably end up getting someone safer like Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, or Will Ferrell.
Let the speculation begin.
