Last week, Netflix launched its first ever comedy festival. And now everything is in full swing all this week, and we’re on site for it and all the fun surprises that they have in store!
Last night, Seth Rogen hosted the first of four events to benefit Hilarity For Charity. All week, he’s hosting a series of table reads. And they started it off with the show about nothing that is Seinfeld.
“If you’re below 30, you should know Seinfeld is a television show about a Jewish man and his misadventures in New York City,” Rogen joked as he started the show. H continued, “What we’ll all discover tonight is ‘How had Seinfeld aged?’. I’m not 100 percent sure myself.”
For the reading, he brought out a stellar cast that included Laraine Newman, Moshe Kasher, Natasha Leggero, London Hughes, and Sasheer Zamata. Playing the four leads were Rogen as Jerry, Kathryn Hahn as Elaine, Aziz Ansari as George, and Jack Black as Kramer. Seinfeld favorite John O’Hurley served as the evening’s announcer.
The three episodes read were The Hamptons, The Marine Biologist, and The Contest. And despite Rogen’s initial reservations on whether or not the material would hold up, it’s safe to say it mostly did. However, it probably didn’t hurt that so many people in the crowd were made up of Seinfeld fans, waiting to hear the lines to their favorite episodes. When the final episode The Contest was announced, there were obligatory cheers. That’s been a fan favorite ever since the 90’s.
Seth Rogen is taking over the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles for the rest of the week. Additional readings include Friday, When Harry Met Sally, and Clueless. Tickets can be found here.
