Did we see this teaming up of comedic minds coming? Absolutely not. That being said, are we happy it’s happening? That’s a big fat yes!
Today, Showtime announced that they are launching a new space-themed comedy series titled Moonbase 8. The series is slated to star John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen, and Tim Heidecker, who are also executive producing the series along with director Jonathan Krisel.
According to the release, the series is about “a workplace comedy that follows three subpar astronauts living at NASA’s Moon Base Simulator with high hopes of being chosen to travel to the moon.” The release then adds: “While working vigorously to complete their training, a series of unexpected circumstances forces the astronauts to question their own mental sanity, trust in each other and whether or not they’re cut out for space travel.”
“In a year when we have all been forced to come to terms with life in close quarters, we are happy to have landed this offbeat take on life in captivity with dreams of escaping to something grander,” said Winograde. “While the show was produced before the pandemic, its subject matter is timely – and thanks to Fred, Tim, John and Jonathan, its humor is timeless.”
Again, this is for sure a pairing up of minds that we did not at all anticipate. But we can’t wait to see what they wind up doing with the material.
