Previously, we have mentioned the announcement of upcoming Showtime documentaries that follow the life of John Belushi as well as a five-part documentary series about The Comedy Store. Well now, we finally have dates attached to the two projects.
First up is The Comedy Store. Directed by Mike a Binder (who started out as a comedian in the 80’s before becoming a film and television director), this five-part documentary is set to examine the rise and boom of The Comedy Store. The documentary will feature interviews with some of the comedians that it helped birth including Judd Apatow, Bob Saget, Martin Lawrence, David Spade, and more. The Comedy Store is set to run on November 15th.
Next up is Belushi. Directed by R.J. Cutler (The World According to Dick Cheney), Belushi will utilize never-before-heard audio tape interviews with those closest to the performer right after they died to get to the heart of the too-short life of John Belushi. As we’re approaching almost 40 years after the comedian’s death, it feels like now is finally time he should get the proper documentary treatment. Belushi is set to premiere November 22nd.
