Some highlights from Jon Stewart’s Mark Twain Prize ceremony

June 23, 2022      Andrew Buss      News, Television

Earlier this year, Jon Stewart received the coveted Mark Twain Prize for Humor. The prestigious honor started in 1998 and has gone to some comedy luminaries as Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Carol Burnett, Jonathan Winters, Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, Bob Newhart, Steve Martin, Dave Chappelle, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Eddie Murphy, Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Bill Murray, among many others.

The latest addition to the list of recipients is Jon Stewart. Stewart was honored in a ceremony earlier this year that included speeches from Dave Chappelle, Steve Carrell, Ed Helms, Stephen Colbert, Pete Davidson, John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel, Samantha Bee, Olivia Munn, and Bassem Youssef. Definitely a rare occurrence to get so many funny people on one stage in one night like that!

This week, PBS aired the full award ceremony. We hope that the special will stream soon, such as how Chappelle’s landed on Netflix a few months later. Until then, check out some highlights from the special.
