We’re so excited for this news to become public. A few weeks back, Jerrod Carmichael happened to be in NYC and performed a last minute stand-up set at The Stand, as always Jerrod was just terrific as he worked on stage for 45 minutes or so. It’s. Killer. Material.
After his set, we said hello to Jerrod, caught up for a minute or two to see how he was doing. Jerrod doesn’t often make it to NYC and we usually only get the chance to catch his act when we travel to the West coast or hit up a festival (like SXSW). In attendance at the show was the one and only Spike Lee, many at the club stated Lee was present to catch Jerrod, for he’d be directing Jerrod’s first hour special for HBO. It’s completely exciting news.
Today, the president of HBO programming Michael Lobardo confirmed this news to be true. Jerrod’s first hour special will be taped at The Comedy Store in Hollywood on May 7th and will be produced by both HBO and Funny Or Die. While no air date for the special has been announced, it will more than likely come sometime in the fall.
This is the second time Funny or Die and HBO have teamed up for a stand-up special. The last time being Sarah Silverman’s terrific 2013 outing, We Are Miracles.
If you need a fix of Jerrod Carmichael before then, you can catch him in the new Seth Rogen/Zac Effron movie, Neighbors which opens next weekend.
And there’s always Youtube.
