Stephen Colbert and Kanye West (sorta) beef over album sales

December 3, 2008      Matt      News, Stephen Colbert, Television, Video

Stephen Colbert says that Kanye West’s ego is way too big for his own good. Colbert feels the only way to battle Mr West is to beat him at his own game. Monday night on his show, The Colbert Report Stephen announced his plans for “Operation Humble Kanye.”

The goal of the operation? To get Stephen’s holiday album, A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All to beat Kanye’s album 808s & Heartbreak to the #1 spot on iTunes effectively defeating the “voice of this generation of this decade” Kanye has claimed to be.

Colbert fired again saying “With all the auto-tuning on your records, you’re barely the voice of your own album. You want to be the voice of a generation? Get in line.” Then proceeded to rank Kanye at a “Tie for 5th with Crocks” on the list of generational voices.

Never one to back down, Kanye West blasted back with the message “Who the fuck is Stephen Colbert?” on his Twitter last night at around 9pm, too late for Colbert to directly retaliate but he’s clearly lying. Colbert then called Kanye out again on his show Tuesday night.

This brings us to today. Colbert has called for us to launch “Operation Humble Kanye” today at 5pm (eastern). Time will tell if it’s a success. Either way, this nicely paves the road for Kanye to stop by The Colbert Report very soon.

BUY: A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All on iTunes.

UPDATE: “Operation Humble Kanye” was a success. Kanye’s album slipped to #4 while Colbert’s jumped to #2. Leaving Colbert to gloat, heavily.
