Steve Martin documentary picked up by Apple TV+

August 10, 2022      Andrew Buss      News, Steve Martin

For nearly 50 years now, Steve Martin has been apart of the pop culture lexicon with his hilarious stand-up, movies, and even remarkable books! And as of last year, he is having yet another big moment in his career as the creator and star of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. The show has become a bonafide hit with critics and fans, and even became the most watched comedy series on Hulu of all time.

And now, there’s a new Steve Martin project in the works.

Today, Apple TV+ announced a new two-part documentary exploring his life and career. The documentary will be produced by A24 and directed by Morgan Neville. Currently the documentary is untitled.

This news also breaks the same day that The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Steve Martin, in which he talks about retiring.

He says, “When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it.”

But then later in conversation, Martin also adds that he’s not really THAT interested in retiring.

“My wife keeps saying, ‘You always say you’re going to retire and then you always come up with something,’ ” says Martin. “I’m really not interested in retiring. I’m not. But I would just work a little less. Maybe.”

Whether or not Steve Martin will retire remains to be seen. But having a documentary dedicated to a comedy trailblazer is absolutely fine by us!!
