This past Thanksgiving, the comedy world lost comedian Andy Ritchie. The comedian had a brain tumor and, as it often does, the comedy community rallied behind one of its own. with efforts spearheaded by Ritchie’s friends Brendan Walsh, Colton Dunn, and Nick Swardson to help raise funds to pay for his medical bills. Daniel Tosh even put together a segment on Tosh.0 to raise money for Ritchie.
Based in Austin (where he won funniest person in Austin accolades), Ritchie also had friends at SXSW. Organizers of the festival’s comedy programmers teamed up with Ritchie’s record label, Stand Up Records! to give us comedy fans a free download of Ritchie’s debut (and only) stand-up comedy album, King Ding-A-Ling. SXSW called Ritchie, “A bright and captivating comic, and very much a beloved member of the community, his death cut short a career that seemed to hold endless possibilities.”
