We’re hearing rumblings from sources that NBC has axed the summer reality comedy series Last Comic Standing… again.
The comedy competition show had new life injected into it this past summer when Wanda Sykes and her production team revived the show for an 8th season hosted by JB Smoove with judges Russell Peters, Roseanne Barr, and Keenan Ivory Wayans. The rebooted show was met to mixed reviews from people who criticized the application process in which producers hand-selected comedians to audition for the show. Once it aired, response was fairly well from the comedians involved and community in general.
As recently as this weekend, it was reported on that producers stated that the show was going through a “retooling” before production resumed. But we’re hearing otherwise from a reliable source that the retooling is not the case and it is done… cancelled.
The show has had a series of ups and downs since debuting in 2003, it was cancelled in its 3rd season final episode ran (it would later air on Comedy Central). In 2006 the show was revived with new host, Anthony Clarke. Bill Bellamy then stepped in as host for seasons 5 & 6. In 2010 (season 7) Craig Robinson took over as host with judges Natasha Leggero, Andy Kindler, and Greg Giraldo in the mix. After a long hiatus where it was cancelled/not cancelled Wanda Sykes picked up the show for season 8, which ended its run this summer.
