That time Meat Loaf and Tim Curry opened up a “Rocky Horror” shop on SNL

No matter how successful they got in their careers and how many different things they did, Tim Curry and Meat Loaf share one thing in common: their respective roles in the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show. And so it would stand to reason that when Tim Curry hosted Saturday Night Live in the early 80’s, with Meatloaf as a musical guest, that there would have to be a Rocky Horror sketch.
The sketch they settled on isn’t so much funny as it is an interesting concept (much like many of the sketches of that era of the show), but in honor of Meat Loaf, who passed away last night, we thought we’d take a look back at their mini-Rocky Horror reunion. The premise is that Tim Curry and Meat Loaf decide to take advantage of all the rabid RH fans who attend the midnight screenings by monetizing their experience. So at their one-stop Rocky Horror Shop, you can buy overpriced toast, rice, lyrics, costumes, and more.
There is also a second Meat Loaf connection to the landmark sketch show. In 1990, he had a brief but memorable role in the film Wayne’s World. He played the bouncer of the Gaslight night club, who shared a pretty funny exchange with Wayne and Garth.
And of course, anyone looking for a truly great and comedic Meat Loaf performance, look no further than the aforementioned Rocky Horror Picture Show. His role as Eddie – the sadistic biker – is fast, but you can definitely seen why he was so closely identified with it over the years and why it is one of the best parts of the movie.
