The 10 best “Star Wars” moments from Conan O’Brien’s tenure in late night

Conan O'Brien

Last night, Conan O’Brien announced that his final show on TBS will be June 24th. And with today being May 4th – the annual day to celebrate all things Star Wars – we thought it’d be fitting to take a look back at some of our favorite Star Wars themed bits from his 28 year tenure in late night.

Conan & Jordan Visit LucasFilm
When Conan did a week of shows in San Francisco back in 2007, he went to go visit the offices for LucasFilm. And with him, he brought the biggest Star Wars expert he knew, Jordan Schlansky. Together, Schlansky called the tour guide’s bluff on what is and isn’t authentic, O’Brien got turned into R2D2, and even managed to destroy a prop from one of the films.

This Guy Has Never Seen Any “Star Wars” EVER
How is it that this guy who has his face tattooed like Darth Maul, owns a business named the Millennium Falcon, and is going to have dinner with his friend George over at Skywalker Ranch has never seen a single Star Wars film? He has a good explanation for all of these things.

Harrison Ford On The “Star Wars Holiday Special”
You wouldn’t think that Harrison Ford’s standoffish overall demeanor would make him an ideal talk show guest. Well, you’d be wrong. Whenever he and O’Brien get together, Ford always played into this persona, which is on full display here when O’Brien asked him about the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special..

Conan Star Wars Cold Open
At the time that The Force Awakens was hitting theaters in 2015, Conan did an entire episode dedicated to the film. In the cold open, we see all of the characters from the original film’s who weren’t invited to participate in the new film meeting up at Jerry’s Deli.

J.J. Abrams Inserted “Jub Jub” Into The Force Awakens
Even since his time on The Simpsons, Conan O’Brien has made it his goal to work the phrase Jub Jub into as many things as he possibly can. And when he asked J.J. Abrams to insert the phrase into The Force Awakens, Abrams delivered. Sort of.

Clueless Gamer: Conan reviews Kinect Star Wars
Back in the early days of his TBS show, one of Conan’s most popular segments he did with Aaron Bleyeart was Clueless Gamer where Conan – a non-gamer – would play and review the latest games. Here, he plays Kinect Star Wars. And on his confusing rating system, he gives it a 6 and a half. We’re not sure what that means, but we are assuming it’s good.

Mark Hamill’s Star Wars Impressions
When Star Wars was being rereleased into theaters in 1997, people forget what a big deal that was. This was a chance for younger generations to be able to experience the film on the big screen. To promote it, Mark Hamill wasn’t above doing anything to get the word out. Including paying a visit to a live nude revue.

Jordan Schlansky Asks Harrison Ford To Sign His Millennium Falcon
Speaking of Harrison Ford, you can only imagine how many times he’s been asked incredibly nerdy and complex questions about Star Wars. And when Jordan Schlansky finally had the chance to ask him the one question he had to know the answer to, Ford does little to hide his disdain. Not even Schlansky’s prized Star Wars collectible is safe!

Young Han Solo Audition Tapes
Bill Hader, Melissa McCarthy, Will Arnett, Thomas Middleditch, Jodie Foster, Adam Sandler, 50 Cent, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jeff Goldblum all try their hand at auditioning for the role of Young Han Solo. It goes precisely how you imagine it would.

Triumph Attends The Premiere Of “Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones”
Without a doubt, this is the grand daddy of not just all Star Wars references on O’Brien’s show, but quite possibly the best bit that Triumph The Insult Comic Dog ever did. Who would’ve guessed that Star Wars fans would’ve been the most perfect fodder for a dog puppet‘S ruthless insults?
