Over the course of 6 episodes, Reunited Apart has served as a nostalgia-fueled distraction from everything going on in the world. From Ghostbusters to The Goonies to Back to the Future to Splash to Lord of the Rings, Josh Gad has served as a virtual guide to all of the movies we grew up. And there’s probably few movies that encapsulates the decade of the 1980’s than Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
For the reunion, he brought back the cast including Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jennifer Grey, Lyman Ward, Cindy Pickett, Kenny Ortega, and Ben Stein. Also joining to ask some Bueller-related trivia questions was Jake Gyllenhaal. Overall, it was fun to see the cast slip back into the characters they created.
But, without a doubt, the highlight of the episode (and quite possibly the series) was the ending. Gad ended the series by bringing us a tribute to John Hughes that reunited so many familiar faces with the material he created. These names include Jon Cryer, Molly Ringwald, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Anthony Michael Hall, Miriam Flynn, Iian Mitchell-Smith, Beverly D’Angelo, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alisan Porter, Judd Nelson, Jane Krakowski, Andrew McCarthy, Laurie Metcalf, Catherine O’Hara, and Michael Keaton.
It was a pretty fitting end to the series, which we hope we will eventually see return for a second season in some way.
