Back in January (which feels like a lifetime ago) Palm Springs – a new movie starring and produced by Andy Samberg – premiered at Sundance. The film was sold to Hulu and Neon and made history as the most money a film ever sold for at Sundance. Earning a reported $17.5 million. Just how much extra money did it take to break the record? 69 cents. That should make it clear that The Lonely Island boys were behind that deal. And now we finally have our first glimpse at the film with the new trailer.
According to the official synopsis, “When carefree Nyles (Andy Samberg) and reluctant maid of honor Sarah (Cristin Milioti) have a chance encounter at a Palm Springs wedding, things get complicated when they find themselves unable to escape the venue, themselves, or each other.” And judging by the trailer, this twist on your standard romantic comedy looks just as twisted as Samberg’s involvement would have you believe and there’s a bit of an homage to the Bill Murray classic, Groundhogs Day.
Rounding out the cast to the film is Cristin Milioti, J.K. Simmons, Peter Gallagher, and Meredith Hagner. The film is directed by Max Barbakow, and co-written by Barbakow and Andy Siara. Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer are also on board as producers.
Palm Springs hits Hulu on July 10th.
