“The Maya Rudolph Show” rakes in solid ratings

May 20, 2014      Olivia Cathcart      News, Television

Last night was the premiere (and potential return of the variety show genre) of NBC’s The Maya Rudolph Show. Lead by Maya Rudolph, the night was filled with dancing, singing, impressions, and more dancing with the aide of Rudolph’s fellow SNL alums Fred Armisen, Andy Samberg, and Chris Parnell and more. The variety show had a solid debut winning it’s 10pm time slot with 7.2 million viewers, scoring a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49. Only The Voice and Dancing with the Stars performed better all night. While the ratings dipped after the show’s first half hour, it was still an impressive outing that might lead to more Maya in our lives.

The show was a one-time pilot of sorts. Given how well it performed, we might be seeing The Maya Rudolph Show return and with more episodes.
