Last year, it was announced that Fallon had extended his contract with NBC as host of The Tonight Show, which was set to expire at the end of this year. However it was not announced exactly how long this extension was for exactly.
Today, it was announced that Fallon has signed on for five more years. The move of course doesn’t seem all that surprising. While Colbert does still manage to beat Fallon in the ratings – which can most likely be attributed to the more political nature of his show versus Fallon’s -, Fallon does manage to attract the highly sought after younger demographic.
With this move, Fallon also joins Seth Meyers, who recently signed his own 5 year contract. Plus, it makes him the third longest tenured Tonight Show host, behind Johnny Carson and Jay Leno.
