Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon has been under fire for nearly a year from critics who consider his political coverage to be not only lacking, but pandering, thanks to his now-infamous interview — conducted at the height of the 2016 election season — in which the late night host failed to ask the highly controversial presidential candidate any substantive questions, opting instead to engage in a shockingly playful conversation that did not go over well with a large number of his viewers.
But in the wake of now-President Trump’s most recent Tweetstorm, in which he announced (apparently to the surprise of the Pentagon) that transgendered Americans will no longer be allowed to serve in the military, it appears that Fallon is finally picking a side.
Last night, The Tonight Show welcomed new correspondent Patti Harrison, a comedian who also happens to be a transgendered woman, to comment on Trump’s latest blatant human rights violation. It was a welcome strong opinion from the generally fluffy show — especially Harrison’s closing comment:
“Trump says transgender people in the military would be a tremendous disruption. And I get it. If you constantly draw attention to yourself, spend all day distracting everyone, and cost taxpayers millions of dollars, the perfect job for you isn’t the military. It’s the president of the United States.”
