Sad news…there will not be a 3rd season of the Starz comedy Party Down. This announcement comes just a few days after the second season of the show wrapped up. The sitcom, which got rave reviews from critics but always suffered in the ratings followed the of LA wannabees as they eeked out a living as caterers until they got their big Hollywood break.
It’s unfortunate because the show was smart, funny, and should have made bigger waves from the sheer names of comedic talent involved alone. From Paul Rudd being one of the show’s creators to the cast boasting strong comedic veterans like Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally, Jennifer Coolidge, Ken Marino, and Martin Starr. Not to mention a personal favorite of ours, Lizzy Caplan (because she’s got a great girl next door quality).
After careful consideration, we’ve decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of Party Down and Gravity,” says Stephan Shelanski, executive vice president of programming for Starz Entertainment. “We’re grateful to everyone involved in the shows, and are proud to have had them on the channel. Starz remains committed to aggressively expanding our original programming lineup.”
It’s not terribly surprising that this decision was made. Producers pledged they could move the show forward and proved so when Lynch left after season 1 for Glee-ner pastures. But the departure of Adam Scott after this season for a role on Parks And Recreation might have been the last straw. Add on the pretty sad returning ratings for season 2 and it the show’s fate might have been written long before it was announced.
Oh, and they also can canceled some show called Gravity. Heard of it? Us neither.
